Ada Lovelace, featured in the LEGO Ideas set "Lovelace & Babbage," is based on the historical figure Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (1815-1852), an English mathematician and writer.
She is primarily known for her work on Charles Babbage's proposed mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. In her notes on the engine, she described an algorithm designed to be processed by a machine; this is widely considered the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine, making her recognized as the first computer programmer.
The LEGO Ideas set aims to celebrate her contributions to the field of computer science and her pioneering role as a woman in STEM. The set features minifigures of Lovelace and Babbage, along with elements representing the Analytical Engine.
